People We Helped
We support many members of our community with diverse medical needs.
We documented some of their stories here, where sustained support was needed and consent for publication was given.
Ben
Ben is a boy whose untreated leg fracture complicated to osteomyelitis – an infection inside the bone that is difficult to resolve. For over two years, we treated Ben with wound cleaning, antibiotics, nutritious food and several hospital visits. We arranged orthopaedic surgery and Ben is heading for a full recovery.
Balira
Balira is a young girl with sickle cell disease. Initially, she was very unwell. We brought her to hospital and got her diagnosed. We started her on treatment and enhanced her diet, including with milk. Gradually, her condition improved – now her health is good.
Hezekiah
17th June 2022 update: Hezekiah is a boy who is seven years old with Type 1 diabetes mellitus. We bought him a glucometer. His blood sugar is balanced. Right now he’s at school. His life is okay. That’s why you have not been seeing me uploading him on this channel – because his condition improved.
Baby Christine
Baby Christine was malnourished because her mother lacked breast milk. Sadly, Christine’s twin brother did not survive. We supplemented her diet with formula milk and she improved quickly and thrived.
Jesse
Jesse had a painful leg wound for 20 years. We arranged medical investigations and he was diagnosed with podoconiosis, caused by prolonged contact with volcanic soils. We treated his wound to help it heal, including regular cleaning and dressing.
Anna
Anna had a chronic condition that made her breasts enlarged and very painful. We got her diagnosed, ensured she received the recommended surgery, then managed her surgical wounds, which fully healed. Now she is living a normal life again and has returned to school to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher.
Collin
Collin had an untreated dislocated ankle. Without intervention, this boy’s injury was eventually going to make walking very difficult. We arranged an x-ray and got him the recommended surgery. He has fully recovered.
Baby Catherine
Baby Catherine could not walk because of an uncomfortable abscess. After we drained the abscess, within days she was walking and happily running around again.
Bridget
Bridget was a 2-year-old girl with severe malnutrition who was too weak to stand. When we found her, we began treatment with therapeutic feeds and started resolving her chronic diarrhoea. Tragically, our intervention was too late and Bridget did not survive.
Eve
Eve is a girl with cancerous swellings in her mouth caused by Burkitt’s lymphoma. We got her diagnosed and brought Eve and two other patients to Uganda’s national cancer institute to be treated. Now Eve is recovering at home. Our intervention saved her life.
Ashraf
Ashraf had malnutrition at the age of 1½. We treated him with therapeutic feeds and improved his living conditions. Now he is stronger and healthier.
